Dr. Laurie Carlson-Hedges×GDC number 76220 Laurie is our principal dentist at Ravenshead Dental Practice and prides himself on attention to detail, good listening skills and a gentle manner, while providing comprehensive dentistry to the highest of standards. He has previously worked in private practices in Bath and Cheltenham, and moved to Nottingham in 2011. He is married to Louise who is training to be an anaesthetist, and has two young children, Tom and Holly. Laurie has studied extensively since he qualified from Cardiff Dental School in 1999, continuing his passion to deliver excellence in all areas of dentistry. He has attended numerous postgraduate courses to keep up to date with the latest techniques and knowledge. He has completed a Masters degree in restorative dentistry and is confident treating complex cases as well as providing routine dental care. Restorative dentistry is the area of dentistry that covers the restoration of oral and dental tissues for patients. It includes the disciplines of periodontology (the prevention and treatment of gum disease), endodontics (root canal treatments) and prosthodontics (the replacement of teeth). He is a graduate of the internationally recognized Dawson Academy for Advanced Dental Study in Florida, and has completed his membership examinations for the Faculty of Dental Surgery. Laurie has been awarded fellowship of the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners. This is the highest qualification that can be gained by a dentist, made in recognition of high standards, and is akin to a quality kitemark or a primary care specialism, attesting to the quality of his work and achievement. Laurie has also qualified with a diploma in postgraduate dental studies from Bristol University, and is certified in providing orthodontics (teeth straightening) including Invisalign, Inman Aligners and Six-Month Smiles. He is a certified laser dentist and is one of only a few dentists in the UK to provide cerec restorations using the Cerec Omnicam system. Laurie is a keen golfer, has completed eight different marathons, and regularly plays badminton, tennis and table tennis. Dr. Sam Elwick×GDC number 245188 Sam joined Ravenshead Dental Practice in 2021, having spent five years working at a prominent private practice and referral centre in Derbyshire. He graduated in 2013 with a Bachelors in Dental Surgery from the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry in sunny Devon - and must be one of only a handful of dentists in the world with a degree in Marine Biology too! Sam is a skilled general dentist. At the heart of his practice is a patient-centred approach and great communication. He has a particular interest in preventative and conservative dentistry and accepts patients who require root canal treatments on a referral basis. He is currently in the process of completing a Master’s degree in Endodontics with Simply Endo at the University of Chester. Since moving to Nottingham in 2015, Sam has settled in Mapperley Park with his partner, a consultant at QMC, their Great Dane Oliver and cat Noah. Dr. Ryan Jeyakumar×GDC number 80728 BDS Birm 2002 Ryan graduated from Birmingham University in 2002 and soon after qualifying moved to Nottingham and has lived and worked in the local area ever since. He has extensive experience in general practice with over 19 years working in various high-end private practices. He has a special interest in straightening teeth (fixed braces, Six Month Smiles and Invisalign). Ryan was taught by renowned orthodontic specialists Jonathan Sandler and Alison Murray and is able to provide various options when it comes to straightening ‘crooked teeth’. Ryan has been placing implants for the past 6 years, helping patients replace lost teeth. Ryan has found this particularly rewarding and continues to attend further courses. His training in this field started at Sheffield university and since then has looked to further his knowledge with courses in London and more locally with Colin Campbell in Nottingham. Ryan is also able to provide various cosmetic treatments to improve a patient’s smile including veneers and composite bondings. His ethos has always been to provide high quality treatment in a calm and caring manner. His aim is to ensure the patient is involved in their treatment and given as much choice as possible. He loves his job and seeks to treat patients with empathy for your concerns, be they related to cosmetics, health, or anxiety. He is dedicated to continual development and ensures he is up to date with current treatments by attending a multitude of dental courses and reading the relevant journals. Away from dentistry Ryan enjoys spending time with his family, relaxing watching a good movie and more recently indoor rock climbing with his 2 young children Mia and Owen. Dr. Joe Vere×GDC number 76043 Joe is a GDC Registered Specialist in Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics, and a consultant in Restorative Dentistry at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester. He completed a Master’s degree in Dental Implantology in 2010, obtained his Membership in Prosthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh in 2013 and completed his specialist training in Restorative Dentistry at Sheffield Dental Hospital in 2015. Joe teaches on the Master’s programme in Dental Implantology at the University of Sheffield and runs regular courses for General Dental Practitioners throughout the Midlands. He is also an examiner for the Overseas Registrant Exam and the Diploma in Implant Dentistry. Joe’s main areas of interest are dental implantology and fixed and removable prosthodontics. He has completed hundreds of cases involving dental implants. His work has been published in national and international journals and presented at national and international conferences. Michelle Jones×GDC number 167456 Michelle enjoys undertaking all aspects of gum treatments as well as fillings, x-rays and impression taking. She has 10 years of experience working in private dentistry and is focused on maintaining high standards of patient care at all times. Michelle thinks it is important to maintain a friendly and relaxing atmosphere for her patients so that treatment is a positive experience for them. She loves getting to know her patients well and catching up on all their news each time they visit. Michelle particularly enjoys dental photography, being able to take “before” and “after” photos for her patients, and finds this is an important part of explaining their treatment needs and celebrating their achievements in improving their oral health.
