Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Dentistry

Many patients are now looking to improve their smile to increase their confidence, and we can offer a whole range of treatments to give you a healthy attractive smile. At Ravenshead Dental Practice we try to avoid cutting and removing healthy teeth whenever possible so promote treatment solutions that preserve your natural teeth such as teeth straightening, whitening, composite bonding, implants and minimal preparation veneers.

Some of the principles of minimally invasive dentistry are:

  • It performs the least amount of dentistry needed in any situation.
  • Never removes any more tooth structure than is absolutely required to restore teeth to their normal condition.
  • Always uses dental materials that conserve the maximum of tooth structure.
  • Uses only dental materials that have been researched by leading dental schools and research institutions and that are recommended by leading practicing dentists.
  • Uses only the strongest and longest-lasting dental materials to reduce the need for future repairs and replacement.
  • Uses dental procedures that keep the number of necessary appointments to a minimum.
  • Uses only dental laboratories that use minimal invasive materials for the restoration of teeth.

Composite bonding - This is a technique that has been utilised in dentistry for many years and can completely transform your teeth with a single visit. The dentist will skillfully use the correct quantity and colour of composite – a mouldable material with a paste-like consistency that looks like enamel – to resolve a number of aesthetic issues including:

  • Closing gaps between teeth
  • Reshaping teeth
  • Lengthening teeth
  • Repairing chipped, worn and broken areas
  • Carrying out a smile makeover through the addition of composite veneers

Minimal preparation veneers – Due to advancements in manufacturing processes, porcelain veneers can now be made in extremely thin sections e.g. contact lens-thin (approximately 0.2 to 0.3 mm) and super translucent. Traditional veneers are fused or bonded to teeth, and generally it is obligatory to grind down the tooth for a good fit. Since minimal preparation veneers are very thin, little to no tooth reduction is necessary. The philosophy at Ravenshead Dental Practice is of minimal tooth destruction whenever possible so this is the type of veneer that is chosen and provided if the clinical situation allows.
